In association with the George A. Romero Foundation, both the Thriller Picture Show and Trailer Bash/Raging Pages film festivals also include Romero Lives Commemorative Events celebrating the career of Pittsburgh's most famous and influential filmmaker, George A. Romero. In the past, we have screened, among other films, DAWN OF THE DEAD (as part of its extremely limited 45th anniversary theatrical run), DAY OF THE DEAD, THE CRAZIES (it's 50th anniversary), and MONKEY SHINES. Each festival also includes an invitation only VIP reception, allowing visiting filmmakers the ability to meet with guests and supporters of the festivals, and award presentations.
we love trailers
Film trailers were conceived in 1913 by Nils Granlund, the advertising manager of Marcus Loew Theaters. Since then, promotional montages that trailed before and after films have become a massive part of cinema history in their own right. Today, there is nothing more nostalgic than enjoying popcorn while watching trailers before a feature film rolls.
Trailers are fun. To honor the history and spirit of a good film trailer, the Pittsburgh Moving Picture Festival Trailer Bash competition seeks the best trailers out there for a most unique film festival.
We combine Trailer Bash with Raging Pages because no good film is ever made without the script. Screenwriters set the stage for the entire movie-making process, and so it is only fitting that their contributions to cinema be recognized on the big screen.
